Endowment Fund
The United Way of Pettis County Endowment (originally the "Orear Endowment Fund") was established in 2011 thanks to the generosity of Cecil Claude "C.C." Orear. Mr. Orear was born in Sedalia in 1918 and served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. He married Emma Frances Lewis in 1962. Mr. Orear was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1942 and served over 50 years as a lawyer. After serving as an attorney in St. Louis, he returned to Marshall to serve that community and manage family-owned farms and property. Mr. Orear was a very generous man who chose to give to organizations that he was impressed with or that were important to him or his wife. He passed away in 2010.
UWPC will forever be indebted to Mr. Orear for his gift establishing the Endowment, which began in $150,000 in 2011. Our goal is to grow the Endowment so the annual income would cover the cost of the UWPC overhead expenses. By donating to the Endowment, you are investing in Sustainability, so all future gifts could flow directly into the community.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?
Charitable Gift Annuity
You may be tired of living at the mercy of the fluctuating stock and real estate markets. A charitable gift annuity is a gift made to our organization that can provide you with a secure source of fixed payments for life.
BENEFITS OF A CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY
- Receive fixed payments to you or another annuitant you designate for life
- Receive a charitable income tax deduction for the charitable gift portion of the annuity
- Benefit from payments that may be partially tax-free
- Further the charitable work of United Way with your gift
HOW A CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY WORKS
A charitable gift annuity is a way to make a gift to support United Way.
- You transfer cash or property to United Way.
- In exchange, we promise to pay fixed payments to you for life. The payment can be quite high depending on your age, and a portion of each payment may even be tax-free.
- You will receive a charitable income tax deduction for the gift portion of the annuity.
- You also receive satisfaction, knowing that you will be helping further our mission.
If you decide to fund your gift annuity with cash, a significant portion of the annuity payment will be tax-free. You may also make a gift of appreciated securities to fund a gift annuity and avoid a portion of the capital gains tax. Please contact us to inquire about other assets that you might be able to use to fund a charitable gift annuity.
